How it works

Map My Future is built the same way professional career psychologists work, using validated assessment frameworks instead of guesswork or generic quizzes. Combined with South African-specific academic scoring systems and a real-time university course database, your responses are used to generate a personalised match profile — not a generic result.

Questions, answered.

General
What is Map My Future?

Map My Future is a platform that matches students to university courses best suited to their academic profile and career goals.

Who is Map My Future for?

Map My Future is designed for South African students in Grades 10–12 who are exploring their university and career options.

Is Map My Future affiliated with any university?

No. Map My Future is an independent platform. Our recommendations are based purely on your academic profile — not on partnerships with any institution.

How It Works
How does the matching work?

You enter your subjects, marks, and interests. Our AI analyses your profile against the entry requirements of courses across seven major South African universities and returns your top matches, ranked by compatibility.

Which universities does Map My Future cover?

We currently cover UCT, Stellenbosch, Wits, UJ, UP, UKZN, and NMU.

How accurate are the course matches?

Our matching is based on official entry requirements including APS scores, subject prerequisites, and faculty-specific requirements. Results are a guide — always verify final requirements directly with the university.

What subjects and marks do I need to enter?

You'll enter your current or most recent school subjects and the percentage marks for each. The more accurate your marks, the better your matches.

What is an APS score and how is it calculated?

An APS (Admission Point Score) is a number calculated from your matric subject marks. Each subject is converted to a point value on a scale, and these are added together. Map My Future calculates this automatically from the marks you enter.

How long does the assessment take?

Approximately 10 minutes from start to finish.

What happens after I finish?

You receive your personalised results immediately — including course matches, compatibility scores, and your full strength profile.

Results
What does my compatibility score mean?

Your compatibility score reflects how well your academic profile aligns with a course's entry requirements. A higher score means you're a strong candidate; a lower score may mean you need to improve certain subjects.

What if I don't qualify for my top matches yet?

That's okay — many students use Map My Future in Grade 9, 10, or 11 specifically to know what to work towards. Your results will show you where you stand and what you'd need to improve.

Can I see what marks I'd need to qualify for a specific course?

Yes. Each course match shows the minimum entry requirements so you know exactly what's needed.

Does Map My Future show bursary options too?

Yes. Alongside your course matches, we surface relevant bursaries you may qualify for based on your profile and intended field of study.
